{Sweet Volunteer} Photography Mentoring + Classes in Wyoming + Montana

I got to reconnect with a high school classmate through a mentoring session recently, and enjoyed every moment with her!  She doesn’t yet have a website for me to link you to, but she is absolutely talented and heading for great GREAT things in her business ventures!  Sonya, thank you for coming all that way for a session with me, and I hope it takes you to new heights in your photography and new direction with your business plans.

We also had a lovely model to work with, and to her and her mom, a big thank you for coming out!!  We appreciated it so much and M, you are absolutely BEAUTIFUL.  Know that.  Own that.  ;)

Thank you again to both Sonya and this sweet volunteer – it was fun!!

If you are interested in a mentoring session with me, either online or in person, use the contact form at the top to send me a message.  I’d love to connect with you and help you with your photographic adventures!

{New Friends} Sheridan, WY + MT Photography Mentoring + Classes

I met up with a photographer from MT last weekend for a mentoring session, and I always walk away feeling so energized and excited about this business.  But even more, I get excited to see my students have things click, to get passionate and to expand their personal and business goals.  I love sharing my knowledge with others and helping other photographers grow.  I know from experience that getting education and expanding on what you already know truly does take your work to the next level.  None of us are done learning when it comes to photography, in fact, I believe with experience we get bigger dreams and want to develop as artists even more.

I believe that mentoring others helps me grow, and I also get to meet such incredible people along the way!!  Thank you so much, Lisa, for coming all that way!  You are going to be great and have big successes in your future!!

Here are a few shots from our morning together.  (Big thanks to these lovely volunteers for being so great to work with!!)

{Felicity Huffman, Carrie Underwood, and a Beautiful Senior} Sheridan, WY + MT Senior Photography

Not only did I get to photograph one very gorgeous senior girl late last week, but I learned an interesting little tidbit about their social connections.  ;)  Apparently her mom is close friends with Felicity Huffman from the hit show Desperate Housewives …say whaaaaaaat?  I LOVE her.  I love the show.  And I really couldn’t quite grasp the fact that she had recently been to little old Sheridan, WY to visit this sweet family.  I somehow missed the party, :-) but nevertheless, I thought it was a pretty incredibly cool connection.  Or maybe I’m just a little star-struck, but either way, I think it would be such a kick to meet her.  And speaking of celebrities, when I started editing these images I realized there was a very strong resemblance to Carrie Underwood, but you can decide for yourself.  Her own appeal and ease in front of the camera made my job so. very. easy.

Celebrities aside, this beauty was so much fun to photograph.  I enjoyed every moment with you Miss K, and look forward to maybe another winter shoot with hats, scarves and snow-dusted trees.  You are absolutely beyond gorgeous…

The one on the right below,  is the one that really reminded me of Carrie Underwood…wish I could be her look-a-like too…;)

Thank you K for allowing me to come explore your property and have some fun photographing your beautiful self!  I hope you love them!

  4. Noelia says: Alissa, just wanted to say that I absolutely LOVE your work. We "met" at Detra's workshop a few years ago (I don't suposse you remember) and I have been following your blog ever since. It's obvious now form your images that you have found that "perfect place" in your work where you have a distinctive and recognisible style and you know exactly how do get it, a place so hard to find for us photographers! I only wish that I lived closer to your town so I could go for a mentoring session (especially on your gorgeous editing) but unfortunately Sheridan is a little too far from Spain! on 08.23.11 @ 12:47 am

  5. Yvonne says: SO perfect. Love the location and your processing. Lovely work as usual! on 08.23.11 @ 4:12 pm

{Mentoring 1:1} Photography Mentoring + Classes Sheridan, Wyoming

Over the weekend I made a new friend from Montana – she came all the way here on a cold Saturday morning to learn from me, which was so humbling and flattering!  But the thing is, I got just as much or more out of it than even she did – it was such a great morning.  Sometimes you just discover those kind, hard working people that you just click with, and Jennifer was one of them!!  She is going to new places with her business and I cannot wait to see that happen!  We just spent time shooting together, working on exposure, backlighting and composition.  We didn’t get a chance to do any editing or Photoshop work, but in my opinion, getting your images to be spot on straight out of camera is the secret to beautiful editing anyway.  Photoshop and other editing software simply enhances what you’ve captured in camera.  Anyway, I have realized over the past year just how much I love to teach – I have had the privilege of working with so many wonderful photographers and I have grown myself through the process.  And now with the workshops coming up, I must admit I am SO EXCITED to take this new venture in 2011.

Speaking of the workshops, I am still booking for the CASPER WORKSHOP (click for more details) and will open registration for the SHERIDAN WORKSHOP next month.  I have a contact list that will receive all the info first – if you want to be in the know, send me a message and I will add you!  Thanks!

So back to Saturday…this is the gorgeous little face we got to work with.  Isn’t she stunning?!!!

You are beyond beautiful, girl…

Thank you so much to Jennifer for coming all that way to hang out with me, shoot with me, learn from me and have a little fun on a cold winter morning!  And a HUGE thanks to this beauty for coming out to model for us and her mama for making it happen!!!  How could we get anything but incredible shots when we had this face to photograph?!!!  =)

If you are interested in 1:1 mentoring, please send me a message through the contact link at the top!  I’d love to hear from you and help you take your images and/or business to new places!

{Just Because: A Sneak Peek} Photographers in Sheridan, Wyoming

This pretty lady is my friend, someone who I have gotten to know over the past 4 years and have grown to love.  She is not only beautiful on the outside, but also on the inside – you can tell by the way she mothers her little people, the bond she has with her man and the solid friend that she is to me.  I am so grateful for her!

We went out the other night for dinner and drinks, but shot these before kicking our feet up for the night.  Mel, I hope you love them and that you see just how gorgeous you are!

Thanks for stopping by, and leave her some comment love!

{Graduating Class 2011: Sneak Peek} Sheridan, WY Senior Photographer

I shot a senior the other day (that pun never fails to amuse me…) and I was happy to discover he was laid back, up for anything and generally nonchalant to my entirely indecisive behavior.  ;)  My clients typically come to realize within the first 10 minutes of the session that I change my mind a lot.  I’m indecisive and I move and I’m a little nutty sometimes.  But you know what?  I always have fun with my clients, and am so grateful to be blessed with the ones I am.

And this year’s seniors have been nothing short of incredible.  This gentleman was the third of this siblings to graduate and I’ve been lucky enough to photograph all 3 of them – and there is one left, the lone girl.  =)  I can’t wait to meet her!  And honestly, every single time I meet up with one of one of these “kids” (I still consider myself a kid, hence the parenthesis) ;) , I leave thinking that these are the most well-behaved, polite, well-rounded teenagers I’ve been around.

Thanks again to this family!

{Rock Stars + Sweet Light} Sheridan, Wyoming Senior Photographers

Last night I got to hang out with my family – the real, genuine incredible people in your life that you are privileged to call family.  This gentleman is my nephew – born into our family a little later than we would have liked, and although I’m still getting to know him, I can see incredible changes in the past few years.  He has gone from a boy just a few years back, to this incredibly strong, confident, respectful young man who defies the norm in all the right ways.   I loved doing these shots and wanted to create a bit of an edgier feel to what would better fit with his alternative, but far from rebellious personality.

Thank you to my sis, my other better-half (haha) and the other cousins who kept my kiddies in check while we searched for color and light.  I had a great night and am always reminded in those moments how much I adore what I do.  ;)

And this image below is some happy accident that I just happened to love.  Out of focus?  Yup.  Love it?  Yup.  =)

Thank you again to my incredible family – I am so grateful to have such amazing, supportive, loving, real and forever kind of people in my life.  Truly, I’m blessed.  And I think this young man is blessed too.

  5. Aunt Mary says: I just had to look at these again. They are truly wonderful and capture the inner Damon. I love the black and white, the one where he's in front of the orange wall and the one where he's by the tire. The "tire one" is so great because of the sense of proportion. The items in the front gives so much more depth to the whole picture. Great job! Hugs again, Aunt Mary on 10.18.10 @ 4:29 pm

{Fashion & Beauty} Sheridan, Wyoming Senior Photography

This beauty graced my lens over the weekend, and she was nothing less than a fashion model in real life…ummm, yes please!  =)  Needless to say, we had so much fun going from place to place and digging through her goodie bag of clothing.  ;)  I told her I need her to come shopping with me.  Ha.

She was this fashionable, beautiful, down-to-earth woman who seems more than ready to take on the world.  Here are some highlights from our session…you might need to grab a beverage as we had a *little* too much fun…;)

Thank you so much to this little fashionista and her mom for coming out, having some fun and exploring with me!  Oh how I love what I do!!!!

{Picture of a Portrait Artist: Mara Schasteen} Wyoming Photographer

A few months ago, this fabulously talented portrait artist, Mara Schasteen, contacted me to do some head shots for her, and although I have known her for years and am grateful to count her a friend, I always feel honored to do any type of work for HER.  Because she is amazingly talented and oozing with all sorts of creative energy, and well, I just think the world of her.  And so we scheduled, then cancelled over and over as we are both busy stay-at-home moms with a creative outlet we call “work” to schedule around.  Speaking of, if you have not checked out her incredible artwork, do it!  Click, run, look and be inspired.  =)

And so we finally met tonight just before sunset, and just walked around her neighborhood finding beautiful light and gorgeous color.  As you can see, it is impossible to take a bad shot of someone this insanely beautiful.  Truly.  ;)

And on this next one, I liked it in bw…

but I think I adore it in color…;)

Thank you, my friend – I had so much fun parading through yards and landscaping of every variety finding beautiful pockets of light!  ;)  Whoever your neighbors are, thank you!!!

{Cabin in the Woods} Sheridan Wyoming Senior Photography

I have an affinity for mother/daughter duos, perhaps because I have my own baby girl and I also have a mother who happens to be my best friend.  It’s the best kind of gift and a relationship that stands the test of time no matter what.  And from an outsiders perspective, it’s always inspiring to see teenagers who remain close to their mom’s through that teenage fog.  And if you’re a woman, we all know “the fog”.  =)  I was invited to do a senior shoot at this family’s cabin in the woods, about a 40-minute drive from our own cabin in the woods.  And I arrived to the most quiet, secluded, quaint little cabin tucked away in the mountainside, where just she and her mom had been enjoying their weekend.  They’d been riding four-wheelers most of the day and hanging out, and I just kept thinking to myself, “THIS is exactly what I want to be doing with my own daughter someday…”

The weather was a bit ominous, cloudy and even rained for the first part of the shoot, but I was determined to get this gorgeous girl in front of my lens.  We ventured out into the wide-open meadow where the light was a little brighter and it ended up becoming a perfect evening, with a gorgeous senior who obviously has her priorities in all the right places.  Family first.  And I felt an affinity for her…and I think my camera felt that same affinity.  =)

can you possibly get anymore beautiful than this??:

Thank you so much to these two ladies for inviting me up and allowing my little family of four to share in your ever-so-quaint and cozy cabin in the woods.  I hope you love these as much as I do!!
